Hello, everyone! My name is Kelly Purcell. I am 24
years old and am a sophmore here at Santa Fe (yes, I did
not go directly into college after high school). I live
in Melrose at the moment. I do not work as I am trying
to get through school at more than a snails pace. My
major is Psychology... I plan to pursue a Ph.D. in
Clinical Psychology and a career counseling at-risk
kids. I believe that this will be a fun class and am
delighted to meet you all.
Sincerely, Kelly

I am Melissa Rivell. I moved here to Gainesville from
Colorado Springs, CO. I enjoy English classes and took
AP English during my senior year in high school. I
pretty much know almost nothing about computers except
how to email people and look at websites. Now we get to
make one...scary. Hope I can learn how to do it. I
really love listening to music. Some of my favorite
bands are JimmyEatWorld, Deftones, Incubus. I listen to
lots of different things and love to hear new
groups/bands that people are excited about. I also love
to read. I also love to discover new, interesting books.
I mostly prefer fiction to nonfiction. I guess I've said
a mouthful. Now I'll see what everyone else has to say.

This is the last in my series of English classes at
Santa Fe. This class offered more than the usual
"stuffy" classroom experience so it naturally appealed
to me. As much of school is about that strict linear
adherence, it is refreshing that one can step back and
observe the bigger picture.

Hey, my name is Angela Maness, and this is my last
semester at SFCC, excluding the summer. I am a
dual-enrolled student, and this is my first official
honors course. I play soccer at GHS, and I hope to play
soccer in the future at a university in the fall. I
don't know what college I want to go to yet, but I'm
pretty sure that I want to major in mathematics on the
pre-med track. I think that this will be a very good
class because it will expand my knowledge on computers,
which is somewhat limited.

You are extremely talented with words! I just read your
introduction post and your bit on "experience" - I can't
remember the title, sorry. Wow!

Hi everyone,
My name is Selena Riess and I work full-time in the
Records office here on campus. I am seeking a major in
Journalism, and at the same time, I am seeking another
major in English. I hope to transfer to UF after I
graduate from Santa Fe.
I enjoy working with students, and I eventually would
like to be in a position helping students with
advisement, perhaps in Academic Advisement. I used to
help with coordinating campus events and campus tours in
the Admissions office. I enjoyed working with the
public and students in this area so well that I also
would like to pursue a position promoting the college
and all the resources it has to offer.
Selena Riess :o)
P.S. My favorite ice cream is Butter Pecan. :)

Hey guys, I'm Natalie Peters... I am a Journalism/
Communications major in my fourth semester, but only my
second semester at SFCC. I plan to transfer into UF's
School of Journalism in the Spring of 2004. This is my
first Honors course, along with my American History 2020
class.
I get the "guinea pig" feeling about this class... I
think we will get to mold it as we deem appropriate
throughout the semester. I know I can handle my own
about computers and webpages, but I'm definetly not a
pro. It's easy to tell that this will not be an
'average' class of any sorts; it breaks the mold of the
30 kids sitting in a class writing 5 paragraph essays on
Plato. (If that is in the near future... my bad!!)
I hope to take the information from this class and use
it in my field of study later down the road. I'm a
published writer, and I enjoy learning new aspects of
anything to do with the communications world.
FYI-- I can't spell to save my life and this thing
doesn't have spell check!! ;)

to Santa Fe a year ago this May and am hoping to be out
of Santa Fe before next May. I originally went to
Western Carolina University and absolutly loved it...too
much. I transfered to Florida Gulf Coast University to
get re-grounded while I was home. After being away at
school and on my own, I needed my independence and a
change of scenery so I decided to move to Gainesville
and complete my AA at Santa Fe.

Hi,
My name is Anne Baatstad, and I'm allergic to ice cream.
Ha, no I really am. :-) I'm really excited about taking
this class, it's my first honors course at SFCC and so
far I'm sure that I'm going to enjoy the work that we
do. I really like that we're being encouraged to
interact with our classmates more that we normally would
in a standard ENC course. Well, it seems like everyone
is writing a little about themselves and where they're
from, so here's a bit about me: I'm from DeLand, FL and
for those of you who aren't familiar with little
redneck-river towns, it's about 30 minutes outside of
Daytona Beach - 15 minutes if you're really good. I
think for a project we should do a class trip to the
ecosystems of Daytona Beach to study the effects of sun
and the pigmentation of our skin - preferably during the
week commonly known as "Spring Break". For extra credit,
bring lots of beads and a video camera. J/K :-) I'm 18
and have lived in FL all my life but have been lucky
enough to travel most of the western hempishere and a
little bit of Scandinavia and the U.K. My dad came to
the U.S. from Norway to raise my sisters and I (I'm a
triplet)with my mom, who refused to go to Norway. He
left his family and all that he had known to move to the
U.S. and work on cruise ships. I see my dad about 4
months out of the year and even less now that I'm in
Gainesville. I really appreciate the sacrifices that he
has made to offer my family a better life, even though I
know that sometimes he really wants to go home. I think
that my opportunities in life to meet people from all
walks of life and to see the good and the bad aspects of
many different countries has helped me develop into a
very open-minded person. Although my dad (who is my
first influence to foreigners) is from a relatively
wealthy nation, I appreciate and really admire the
people who are raised in third or second world countries
who pretty much aren't guarenteed the rights to a bright
future and education like we are in the U.S., yet they
wake up every day knowing that they're going to make
something great of themselves. They come here and battle
the cultural and language barriers (and sometimes put up
with a great deal of prejudice), educate themselves, and
really appreciate what we take for granted. Thinking of
things is this way has helped me encourage myself that
anyone can be successful in anything that they do, no
matter how impossible it may seem. My major is
political science and I'm hoping to do pre-law at UF and
then go to law school either at UF or a higher-ranking
institution. That's about it for me. I can't wait to
read everyone elses' posts!

I'm Summer Smith, a college student in her final
semester here at SFCC. This is my fifth honors course
and I believe it will prove to be of the greatest
assistance to me as a journalism student specializing in
online media. I'm moderately computer savvy, with
experience in the use of programs in the adobe and
microsoft office packages. On a more personal note, I
enjoy producing, recording, mixing, listening to,
sharing, and talking about music. I read just about
everything I can get my eyes on, and I also enjoy
frisbee, surfing, computer graphics, writing, and of
course, goofing off with my close friends. I look
forward to getting to know all of you.

that I hope to enjoy the class with all of you and hope

3 hour eng. credit that I must attain, and I like Dr.
